For a few years now, the FRAC Lorraine has been expressing the desire to present a new form of artworks that are characterized by being intangible, immaterial. The institution has thus embarked on collecting protocol and performative pieces. Such an initiative raises the question of their exhibition, their reactivation, and the understanding of the challenges of such an undertaking. How can the memory of an action, of a work destined to disappear, be reactivated?
This partnership with the FRAC provided an opportunity to engage in reflection and establish a working workshop through the realization of an exhibition at the ÉSAL gallery. We experienced it as a fitting moment to address the specific question of exhibiting a living art, avoiding the trap of fossilization or sanctification of the artwork object. Artist Esther Ferrer joined us for two days of performance initiation, allowing us to confront this practice and, as she put it, "to do in order to think."
